The old hut was getting well undercut by the South Ohau River, and it was only a matter of time before it would come to grief. <br><br>The new hut is similar to other DOC huts currently being built. A well built 10 bunk on two platforms. Fire with drying racks. <br><br>Plenty of room for camping on flats below. Currently a lot of fire wood in shed and around the hut area. <br><br>Large deck that would be a great place to sleep if it wasn't for the large spiders (best guess Sheetweb).]]></description>

The shelter has a fire pit, bench seating for about 10 people, a cooking table, rain water tank and a pit toilet. The river is just behind from where Im taking the picture and flat ground to the left of the shelter provides room for 5 or 6 tents easily with room for more on the sloping foreground. 					<description><![CDATA[Only 2-3 hours from the Makahu road end and Makatutu Hot Springs and 45 mins from the Mangatainoka Hot Springs on the true right of the River.  This hut is in pretty good shape, sitting directly on the Mohaka River, which is known for it's excellent trout fishery.  Blue Ducks (Whio) are observable on the river.  Land across the river is privately owned, as is that past the Mangatainoka Hot Springs.]]></description>
