"the track is good. the beachs dont have much in the way of sandflies, but more than make up for it in the ammount of people that take water taxis in for a we while and water taxi back out which tends to spoil the track a lot. Also the lodge was closed and didnt leave a note at awora campsite for us to see. and then after we walked 40 minutes would serve a drink to us, thanks all four of the employees that were sitting outside doing nothing!!!!

so in short a good kayak but ruined by day tripers who take the soft way in."

"I completed this walk solo between xmas and new year but it was so busy I didnt feel isolated. The kayak tours have certainly made it more accessable and there were a number of day walkers from Totaranui and road accessways. Beaches were amazing although even on the hottest day the water was surprisingly fresh - better than no wash at all. I think it cost something like $15/night per person to camp?? which is my preference in the summer as you can have your own space and the camping areas were gorgeous. Excellent facilities all around including open fireplaces in the camping areas should you feel the need for a chorus of Kumbaya. An enjoyable trip with sparkling clear waters and golden sand beaches. It was an easy tramp and a great one for those fresh into it due to the coastal nature and it's fairly flat most of the way. Next time I would tend to go to some of the smaller camp sites for time out. Not one if you really want to go bush as you can hear the water taxis going back and forth most days its still a little like being in the city!! Enjoyable walk not one to miss in my opinion. Highlight for me was the last day from Whariwharangi to Wainui bay amazing views coming over that ridge and I could see right over to the spit."

"A nice easy walk with great views and scenery. The top half from Arwaroa inlet up was easily the best part of the track. Marahau to torrent bay was nice easy walking but you do not see alot of the coast line. Also a lot of day walkers on this section. Some great campsites, all seemed to have the basics and some had excellent amenities if you want that. We stayed at some smaller less used campsites for peace and quite however there were still a few people round."
